International Education and Training

project list (Updates to the progress of each project are made on 2/15, 5/15, 8/15 and 11/15)

International education and training from the TaiwanICDF shares Taiwan’s own development experiences with developing partner countries around the world. Our aim is to help these partner countries cultivate and nurture a talented pool of human resources.

To achieve this objective, our International Education and Training Department performs a range of interconnected operations. Our in-depth, professional workshops are dedicated to contemporary trends in development, while our higher education scholarship program draws on expertise at Taiwanese universities to strengthen know-how in critical disciplines. We also cooperate with a number of international organizations on training projects.

Professional Workshops

Drawing on Taiwan’s own social and economic development, our workshops are designed to strengthen human resources in partner countries. They cover a range of contemporary development issues such as trade and industry, agriculture, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), health care and environmental protection. Participants include staff of government agencies, high-ranking officials or NGO workers from our developing partner countries.

Each year, we organize up to 20 workshops for around 500 participants.

We also share Taiwan's development experiences in the agricultural, SME and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sectors by cooperating with multilateral and bilateral organizations such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Agency for International Trade Information and Cooperation, and the Interchange Association Japan. Together, we have conducted various human resources projects, professional training workshops and regional seminars within our partner countries, with curricula designed to address local and regional development issues.

International Higher Education Scholarship Program

Our International Higher Education Scholarship Program was initiated in 1998 when we joined forces with a group of Taiwanese universities to offer scholarships for a number of English-language courses, up to and including Ph.D. level.

The program enables talented young citizens to come to Taiwan to pursue their higher education and follow course materials and learning objectives that are specifically designed to address key development issues. The program provides full financial support for tuition and living expenses, and having grown in scope over the years, now covers 37 courses from 23 universities — 9 bachelor's, 25 master's and 3 Ph.D. programs. These courses focus on the development needs of our partner countries by addressing issues such as tropical agriculture, aquatic sciences, business administration, information technology, human resource development, medicine and public health, or various fields of engineering. All of these disciplines are in high demand in our developing partner countries. We aim to boost social development and economic growth by generating a pool of quality human resources.

Each year we provide scholarships to around 200 new students.

Vocational Training Project

TaiwanICDF Alumni Societies

TaiwanICDF Alumni Societies are designed to build on the various education and training programs that we have organized over the years. Membership is automatically granted to anyone who visits Taiwan to participate in our training programs, and helps to foster a sense of unity for participants once they have returned home. We offer funding to support the operations and activities of local societies, through which alumni gain access to a network of support from the TaiwanICDF and other fellow alumni as well as resources to support their continued professional development.

At present, we sponsor the activities of 26 TaiwanICDF Alumni Societies in 25 countries.
