Taiwanese Orchids Adorn Valentine’s Day Celebrations in Paraguay with TaiwanICDF Assistance

Valentine’s Day in 2024 aligned with “Fifth Day”, a day on the lunar calendar associated with the God of Wealth. The TaiwanICDF seized this opportunity to organize a Valentine’s Day sale and trade show at the San Lorenzo Orchid Exhibition Center, which ran from February 9 to 16. Two thousand blooming Phalaenopsis orchids, accompanied by delicate pots and elegant designs, caught the locals’ eyes, adding a romantic atmosphere to the venue and drawing over a thousand visitors and purchasers.
Apart from Valentine’s Day events, the Taiwan Technical Mission also holds orchid exhibitions during Mother’s Day in May and the Spring Festival in September each year. The Orchid Exhibition Center sold 7,500 orchids in 2023, bringing in about $25,800 in revenue.
The TaiwanICDF has been collaborating with Paraguay to meet the domestic demand for orchids since 2015. In 2019, the organization began supporting a public-private partnership business model through the Project to Strengthen Capacity for Commercial Production of Orchids, which sees private sector partners managing the Orchid Exhibition Center. This project not only helped commercialize the center but also established an effective production model for the orchid industry as a whole, while also improving the marketing capabilities of the nation’s government. Going forward, the TaiwanICDF will continue sharing Taiwan’s expertise and experience to support Paraguay’s orchid industry.
