Building Smart Homelands: TaiwanICDF releases video to share achievements assisting partner countries in the Caribbean through ICT projects

To share with everyone how we have introduced Taiwan’s information and communications technologies (ICT) to our diplomatic allies in the Caribbean in recent years to enhance their level of digitalization and build the foundations for smart cities, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) released a video titled “Building Smart Homelands—ICT Projects in the Caribbean” in February. We invite you to watch the video on the TaiwanICDF YouTube channel.

The video presents the “Intelligent Bus Management and Monitoring System Project for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines”, “ICT Technical Cooperation Project for Saint Kitts and Nevis”, “Saint Kitts and Nevis Land Administration Information System Project” and “Project for ICT in Education in Saint Lucia ICT Education Project” implemented in the Caribbean by the TaiwanICDF. Through the video, the TaiwanICDF shares how Taiwan’s abundant information and communications technologies and experience is used to improve the convenience of local people’s lives. The video also symbolizes Taiwan’s efforts to continue working with our partner countries to build smart and resilient cities and a sustainable living environment for all their people.

In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the TaiwanICDF has been working with the central government to improve the efficiency and security of their transportation by implementing Taiwan’s Smart Bus System and constructing 40 smart solar e-paper bus stop signs across the nation. In addition, people can use the application developed for the project to look up the arrival and departure times of buses, which has greatly reduced the average waiting time by around 50%, improving the convenience of public transportation in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

In the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the TaiwanICDF has introduced the technology and experience accumulated over the years in developing hospital information systems, working with local hospitals to digitize their medical management to achieve process automation. This system has not only greatly reduced the workload of medical staff, but also brought patients a better quality of medical care.

Moreover, in order to boost the efficiency of land administration in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the TaiwanICDF has been assisting the nation in establishing the Land Administration Information System to complete the digitization, analysis and reconstruction of various land administration workflow processes. The project aims to shorten the time to process land transactions from six months to three months or less.

In Saint Lucia, the TaiwanICDF has been helping teachers to enhance ICT capabilities by drawing on Taiwan’s experience in campus development. The project has also actively organized ICT workshops for teachers to establish a holistic curriculum and pass down cultural heritage by adopting digital technology.

In recent years, the TaiwanICDF has made videos to introduce various projects implemented overseas to let domestic and foreign audiences understand the state of Taiwan’s foreign aid. You can find more audio-visual information through the official website, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube channel of the TaiwanICDF.
