TaiwanICDF Strengthens Digital Transformation of Small Wood Factory in Guatemala by Helping Develop Online Market

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) has used the technical resources of the Project for the Capacity Strengthening to Support the Incubation and Entrepreneurship for MIPYMEs in Guatemala to assist the small wood factory De Todo en Madera (DTM). The project has not only helped DTM create the online store website and acquire online marketing skills, but also utilized the Taiwan Technical Mission financial expert to apply for the third-party payment service of Industrial Bank in Guatemala, allowing consumers to directly buy goods online and enhancing DTM's ability to adapt to COVID-19.

Walther Torres, owner of DTM, said that he had never thought of selling goods online. After receiving e-commerce counseling from the TaiwanICDF, he gained the confidence to lead the factory’s 12 employees to develop more new products for the online store, such as wooden phone stands, wine racks and various gift boxes. In addition, following the suggestion of the Taiwan Technical Mission, Torres successfully capitalized on Christmas and Valentine's Day and targeted the high-end market by offering customized services. The TaiwanICDF has assisted DTM to integrate online and offline markets, helping the small factory survive the economic downturn during the global pandemic.

In the future, the TaiwanICDF will continue to offer e-commerce counseling for SMEs along with diversified financial tools to strengthen the sustainability and resilience of SMEs and help enhance their ability to adapt to a post-pandemic world.
