Project Name:Agricultural Product Processing Project (St. Kitts and Nevis)

Project Description:

This project will produce and market a consistent supply of processed products so that the operations of the Agro-processing Centre can become self-sustainable.Overall, this project will:
1.Provide support so that the Agro-processing Centre can become self-sustainable.
2.Transfer the project to the Ministry of Agriculture.
3.Build capacity among stakeholders due to take over the project.
4.Organize exhibitions.

Project Objectives:

1. Assist in the development and production of four branded products derived from local materials, to support self-sufficiency and sustainable development.
2. Cooperate with the Ministry of Education to hold four youth vocational education and training courses; provide surplus agricultural produce to the ministry for use in school lunches, thereby providing students with a nutritionally balanced diet.
3. Promote sustainable agricultural management by assisting local farmers’ cooperatives to produce branded products and reduce imports of processed agricultural products.
4. Develop four tourist souvenirs and help to promote agricultural tourism.
5. Provide assistance to international organizations working on related agricultural product processing projects, thereby enhancing Taiwan’s image in terms of international cooperation.
6. Establish a consolidation center and organize production and marketing groups to promote the operation of a production and marking chain.

Executing Agency:

Taiwan Technical Mission in St. Kitts and Nevis / Ministry of Agriculture (St. Kitts and Nevis)

Project Performance:

1. Developed 17 products (in 4 categories) and sold in supermarkets, restaurants and duty-free stores (22 sale points in total).
2. Forged cooperation with the Ministry of Education on “Project Strong” to provide vocational training courses for the youths.
3. Developed 2 items of tourist souvenirs with local cultural touch: Caribbean flavor jam and pineapple cake.
4. Conducted 8 training sessions to build capacity for 105 food processing professionals. 
5. Offered consulting services to 20 people.
