The TaiwanICDF 10th Anniversary Celebration Has Brought Taiwan's Foreign Assistance to the Spotlight

On 1 July 2006, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held a gala banquet at the Grand Hotel to celebrate its 10th anniversary of its establishment in 1996. President Chen Shui-bian provided some remarks on the achievements and contributions from the TaiwanICDF. He also encouraged the premier organization responsible for Taiwan's foreign assistance to continue its beneficial work around the world in furthering international development and Taiwan's relationships with other countries.

The TaiwanICDF's operations include lending and investment, credit guarantee, technical cooperation, international human resource training, and international humanitarian assistance. All projects are planned and evaluated in terms of sustainability and accountability. These operations aim to cooperate with Taiwan's international policies and contribute to the development of Taiwan's diplomatic allies and partner countries around the globe.

Over the last decade, the TaiwanICDF has increased the dedication of Taiwan's people in serving the international community by forming the Taiwan Overseas Volunteers. In addition, the promotion of the private sector in developing countries, cooperation with international organizations and provision of technical assistance to upgrade and transform industries have been some of the core operations of the TaiwanICDF. Moreover, the establishment of the Taiwan International Cooperation Alliance (TICA) with 10 Taiwanese Universities works on international education cooperation and the dispatch of the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service also illustrates the continuing engagement of the TaiwanICDF increasing Taiwan's international participation.

At the celebration gala, many people who have devoted their lives for Taiwan's foreign assistance were honored. 36 leaders of the overseas technical and medical missions, overseas volunteers and young servicemen were there to witness this special moment. The chairman of the TaiwanICDF, Mr. James Huang presented honorable sashes to the representatives of these different groups serving the world community and encouraged them to continue their reputable work.
