Project Name:Medical Project in the Pacific Island Countries (Budget from MOFA)

Project Description:

The aim of this project is to transfer techniques for medical treatment through clinical exchange, working in accordance with trends in international assistance and the implementation of project- oriented aid modalities. The project’s core mission is to build the capacity of medical personnel, firstly by helping Pacific island partner countries to collect information on special medical cases and diseases and then, by dispatching Taiwanese medical teams and local physicians jointly treat these special cases and complex diseases, thereby enhancing the abilities of local physicians.

Project Objectives:

By building the capacity of medical personnel in Pacific partner countries and promoting the abilities of medical professionals, reduce expenditures on medical evacuate patients, strengthen the capacity of primary medical professionals and improve the benefits available to citizens in partner countries.

The TaiwanICDF / Shuang Ho Hospital / Machay Memorial Hospital / Chung Shan Medical University Hosopital /  Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital / Changhua Christian Hospital / Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital / Taichung Veterans General Hospital

Implementation Arrangement:

In accordance with Pacific partner countries’ clinical technology needs, the TaiwanICDF will dispatch medical teams organized in cooperation with the International Healthcare Cooperation Strategic Alliance (IHCSA), each providing 2-3 weeks of medical treatment services and technology transfer.

Current Progress:

To the end of December 2013, the following activities have been completed:
Dispatched eight medical teams to eight Pacific island countries in cooperation with seven Taiwanese hospitals.

Implementation Progress:Overall, dispatch nine medical teams to eight Pacific partner countries before February 28, 2014.

Project Performance:

Promote the clinical ability of medical professionals at recipient hospitals in our Pacific partner countries so as to raise local capacity to provide care in complicated cases and for critically ill patients, thereby reducing expenditures on evacuating patients.

Projected Benefits:

1.Promote the clinical skills of medical professionals in our Pacific partner countries.
2.Provide treatment and to citizens in partner countries.
