Project Name:Drought Relief in North Eastern Kenya - Phase 1
Project status:Completed projects
Cooperating Country:Kenya, Africa
Project Description:
Pastoralist communities living in Kenya have been severely affected by the deteriorating food security just like all the pastoralists in the horn of Africa region. The 2010/2011 Deyr and Gurains failed or performed poorly. The quality and quantity of pasture are extremely poor. Most livestock have either died or are in extremely poor condition. The poor rainfall has resulted in inadequate recharging of water sources and regeneration of pasture. Distances to water for both livestock and domestic use have increased and are well above average SPHERE standards. The food security situation is similarly precarious.
The phase 1 project will focus on:
1.Establishment of water and sanitation infrastructure, water vouchering.
2.Hygiene promotion.
