Delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of Belize Visit the TaiwanICDF
Deputy Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. Cordel Hyde led a two-member delegation to visit the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on October 9, 2024.
The DeputySecretary General of the TaiwanICDF, Mr. Alex L.J. Shyy warmly welcomed the delegation. Aside from the Deputy Prime Minister, the visitors also included Mr. Paul Thompson, Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. Ramon Quiroz, who are from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining of Belize. They exchanged views on the TaiwanICDF’s cooperation projects in Belize.
The TaiwanICDF’s ongoing projects in the country include “Assisting the Economic Recovery and Empowerment of Women in Latin America and the Caribbean in the Post-COVID-19 Era ─Technical Assistance for Women’s Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Financial Inclusion/Belize”, the “Project for Strengthening Metabolic Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Systems in Belize”, the “Credit Program for Safeguarding the Productive Sectors and Women MSMEs”, the “Flood Warning Capacity Improvement for the Belize River Basin Project”, the “Regional Project for the Prevention and Control of Fusarium TR4 in Banana Production in Central America”, the “Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project”, the “2024 Healthcare Personnel Training Program”, and the “Overseas Professional Mandarin Teaching Project”among others. In addition, the TaiwanICDF dispatches Mandarin teachers and servicemen to assist with implementing these projects.
To date, 278 Belizeans have received training in the TaiwanICDF Professional Workshop Program, while 467 Belizean students have received funding from the TaiwanICDF International Higher Education Scholarship Program and studied in Taiwan.
