Project Description:
On 6 February 2023, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck southeastern Türkiye, affecting 11 provinces across the country. In the most severely impacted area, Hatay province, more than 20,000 people lost their lives, and approximately 770,000 people were displaced. Many affected people are now living in container cities, facing challenges of poor WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) conditions and insufficient healthcare services. In response, this project aims to improve access to WASH and healthcare services for earthquake-affected households in the Hilalkent and Emlak Konut container cities in Hatay. Overall, the project included the followings:
- Repair of WASH facilities in Hilalkent.
- Distribution of 2,250 hygiene kits to households and 450 mother-baby kits to families with newborn babies in Hilalkent and Emlak Konut Container City.
- Organization of at least 24 awareness-raising sessions on infectious diseases for at least 1,800 beneficiaries and service providers in total, and provision of infant care counseling for caregivers including pregnant women.

Executing Agency:
Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization (ASAM)
Implementation Arrangement:
The TaiwanICDF will support the project by dispatching experts. ASAM will implement the project and liaise with local government units, communities and stakeholders.

The project is launched on September 1, 2024.
