The Minister of Agriculture from St. Lucia Showcasing the Achievements of the Joint Effort of the TaiwanICDF and Ally Countries in Agricultural Product Processing between through leading a delegation to Food Taipei Mega Shows 2024

Agricultural and food exports have always been an important development dimension for the government of Saint Lucia. The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) assisted local youth and women in improving their agricultural product processing techniques, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the products from the beneficiaries through the implementation of the " Assisting the Economic Empowerment of Youth and Women Project in Latin America and the Caribbean in the Post COVID-19 Era Project”.

The TaiwanICDF has facilitated a visit to Taiwan for Hon. Alfred Prospere, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development and Hon. Richard Frederick, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Housing and Local Government from June 25 to 29. The delegation actively participated in the “Food Taipei Mega Shows 2024”, a key platform for promoting Saint Lucia’s products and gathering valuable market insights from Taiwanese consumers. This proactive approach significantly bolstered bilateral exchanges between Taiwan and Saint Lucia.

The TaiwanICDF arranged a visiting to Ministry of Agriculture for the delegation for further discussion in agricultural technology, rural regeneration, soil and water conservation, and disaster mitigation, were instrumental in building upon existing agricultural cooperation initiatives; the delegation also visited the Xingang community in Kaohsiung, where they engaged with young farmers and fishermen to share experiences of youth participation and regional revitalization. They also visited the diverse developments at the Mi-Tuo fishing harbor with the Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Marine Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government; moreover, the delegation's visit to the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology was a key part of their trip. It provided an opportunity to explore Taiwan’s smart agriculture and greenhouse cultivation practices and to exchange ideas with Taiwan’s greenhouse suppliers.

Through these comprehensive engagements involving industry, government, and academia, the TaiwanICDF aims to enable Saint Lucia to leverage Taiwan's successful experiences to enhance the value of local agricultural products and create more employment opportunities for youth and women in vulnerable situations.
