Basic Military Training Gets Underway for Eleventh Group of Taiwan Youth Overseas Servicemen

Training for the 11th group of Taiwan Youth Overseas Servicemen got underway on August 29, 2011 at Chengkungling military training camp in Taichung, under the supervision of authorities at the Ministry of the Interior. Following basic training, due to be completed by September 19, the group will move on to complete the TaiwanICDF’s own six-week program of specialized courses, which will cover basic language skills, technical cooperation in an international context, preparation of service notes and documentation, and guidance on adjusting to the physical and psychological challenges of living and working abroad.

This year’s group of servicemen comprises 111 draftees. In early November, after completing the six-week training program, draftees will each be assigned to work at one of 28 TaiwanICDF-operated technical and medical missions in 24 partner countries, and, once overseas, assist permanent staff at their mission to implement one or more of the organization’s development projects.
