Project Description:
The TaiwanICDF is working alongside partners in Haiti to increase the nation’s produce yields and strengthen its food security. To accomplish this, the fund is introducing Taiwan’s high-quality fruit and vegetable varieties, establishing a demonstration field, and providing seedlings of Haiti’s traditional crops. The main contents of the project include (1) setting up a vegetable and fruit cultivation demonstration field; (2) conducting counseling and training sessions for 500 farmers; and (3) assisting in the marketing of demonstrated crops.

Project Objectives:

Implementation Progress:
To the end of September 2024, the following activities have been completed:
1. Cleared and prepared a 2.12-hectare demonstration field.
2. Cultivated a variety of local vegetable variety including green pepper, hot pepper, carrot, eggplant, cucumber, and watermelon, totaling 6,020 seedlings.
3. Planted a variety of vegetable crops including watermelon, seedless watermelon, papaya, and cantaloupe, totaling 2,800 plants.
4. Provided guidance for vegetable and fruit promotion covering an area of 2.75 hectares, involving 83 farmers.
5. Organized two farmer training sessions and one composting workshop, with a total of 120 participants.
6. Established a 20 cubic meter demonstration composting facility.
7. Provided guidance for crops produced by local farmers in entering 2 traditional market sales channels.
8. Facilitated the procurement and bidding processes for the construction of the net house.

Projected Benefits:
Established a demonstration field in Artibonite Province and introduced 4 new fruit and vegetable varieties, increasing crop unit yield by 10%.
