Project Description:
The project is expected to utilize Taiwan’s years of experience in metabolic chronic diseases management mechanisms to help improve the chronic disease prevention and control system in St. Lucia. Enhancing the self-management abilities of patients and high-risk groups with chronic diseases will help reduce the country’s medical and financial burdens. The project content includes: (1) Strengthen the promotion of related strategies for the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases; (2) Strengthen the capacity for metabolic chronic diseases prevention and control at medical institutions; (3) Enhance the self-management capacities of community residents for the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases.

Project Objectives:
The objectives of this project are:
1. Strengthen the promotion of related strategies for the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases.
A. Policy planners to visit Taiwan.
B. Provide a report on promotion strategy recommendations in accordance with existing metabolic chronic disease strategies and plans in the country.
C. Hold an international seminar on the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases.
2. Strengthen the capacity for metabolic chronic diseases prevention and control at medical institutions.
A. Strengthen the professional and case management capacities of the metabolic chronic disease team in medical institutions.
B. Assist at least 5 public medical institutions to strengthen the hardware equipment needed for the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases.
3. Enhance the self-management capacities of community residents for the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases.
A. Capacity building of community health education personnel.
B. Community health education promotion activities.
C. Improve people’s management of their own metabolic conditions.

Implementation Arrangement:
Members of the Project will provide technical assistance and assistance for capacity building.
Current Progress:
To the end of December 2024, the following activities have been carried out:
- Invited 3 policy planners from the Ministry of Health of St. Lucia to visit Taiwan.
- 6 seed instructers have completed training on metabolic chronic diseases in Taiwan. They have returned to St. Lucia and conducted 6 training workshops for 159 personnel.
- 3 community seed trainees completed training on metabolic chronic diseases in Taiwan. They have returned to St. Lucia and conducted 3 healthcare training courses for 58 community healthcare professionals.
- Held 9 physical exercise promotion activity, with a total of 540 participants, and produced 3 exercise videos.
- Held 5 nutrition courses, with a total of 381 participants.
- Developed 3 diabetes-friendly menus, printed 2,100 copies of the recipe book, and conducted 7 cooking demonstration.
- Conducted 4 digital media health education promotion activities and distributed 2,100 copies of health education materials on diabetes and hypertension.
- Provided 195 health screenings, serving 6,809 people.
- Developing the i-Screen App by Cathay General Hospital to strealine case management and improve efficiency.

Strengthen the capacity for the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases in St. Lucia.
