TaiwanICDF partners with World Vision to guard maternal and child health in Eswatini

The COVID pandemic and the inflation have severely impacted vulnerable households’ livelihoods in Eswatini. To better the nutritional status and health of vulnerable women in the perinatal period, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) has collaborated with World Vision Taiwan (WVT) and World Vision Eswatini (WVE) to implement Cash Assistance Project to Complement Maternal and Infant Health Care Improvement Project in the Kingdom of Eswatini (Phase 2). The project, launched on 1 December 2022, will provide cash assistance to the vulnerable women in the perinatal period to meet their needs in nutrition and perinatal care.

Maternal and Infant Health Care Improvement Project in the Kingdom of Eswatini is a development project conducted by the Taiwan Technical Mission in Eswatini. It had worked with World Vision Eswatini on the Cash Assistance Project (Phase 1) in 2019, which assisted 686 pregnant women in completing 4 times antenatal care and improved 873 women’s nutritional status. However, considering the economy in Esawtini remains stagnant, the TaiwanICDF, therefore, continues to work with WVE to implement the Cash Assistance Project (Phase 2). WVT also supports this project through joint-funding. This project follows the previous model and further expands the coverage of the beneficiaries throughout the post-natal phase to protect the health of vulnerable mothers and neonates.

This project will provide cash assistance to 510 vulnerable women in the perinatal period, so they can buy nutritious food to maintain their health and pay the transportation fees to the clinics for receiving pre and post-natal care.
