2022 Our Ocean Conference exhibition “Towards a Zero Emission and Zero Waste Future” now on display from April 12 to 14 !

The TaiwanICDF and the Ocean Affairs Council(OAC) of the R.O.C (Taiwan) will co-host the “Towards a Zero Emission and Zero Waste Future” Exhibition at the Palau Royal Hotel from April 12 to 14. It will display Taiwan’s contributions through assistance projects in “Marine Conservation”, “Marine Security”, “Marine Garbage Reuse and Recycle”, “Marine Technology”, and “Climate Resilience” and we look forward to sharing the Taiwan model and accomplishments in ocean affairs with all international participants. The opening ceremony was co-hosted by Ambassador Timothy Hsiang, Secretary General of the TaiwanICDF, and Dr. Tsai Ching-Piao, Deputy Minister of the OAC, at 4:00 pm on the first day of the exhibition, and hundreds of international guests from the USA, Japan, and Pacific island countries were participating in the event.

Secretary General Hsiang said in his opening remarks that, in accordance with the needs of allied countries and the fields of its ongoing projects, the TaiwanICDF has made four commitments, which have been approved by the OOC and respond to four action areas of the OOC, including “Advancing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries and Aquaculture”, “Tackling Marine Pollution”, “Confronting the Ocean-Climate Crisis or Towards an Ocean Solution for Climate Change”, and “Creating Sustainable Blue Economies”. The commitments, which total US$ 12 Million, demonstrate Taiwan’s determination to assist in the balancing of social, economic, and environmental development for allied countries and to make contributions to revitalization of global sustainability and marine conservation.

For this exhibition, Secretary General Hsiang further explained that all the exhibits and their shelves were designed with eco-friendly perspectives and made from either recycled or recyclable materials in order to reduce the environmental burden. Furthermore, these marine debris-made exhibits have presented Taiwan’s technology and capability in recycling and reuse of marine waste by both the public and private sectors. The main idea of this exhibition is to emphasize the relationship between the ocean and mankind and this is demonstrated by a huge sculpture “Wandering Around Our Island” produced by a Taiwanese artist, Ms. Cai-Ling, Tang, at the exhibition entrance. In addition, the exhibition  also entitled “Small Islands Big Synergy” showcases the outcomes of collaboration between Taiwan and Palau, the host of the OOC, in climate resilience, food security, sustainable fisheries, and blue circular economy projects to attract the attention of international participants.

In recent years, the TaiwanICDF has continued to demonstrate Taiwan’s contributions to international assistance as well as improving international visibility among global partners by hosting side events and exhibitions during critical international events. In addition to the exhibition above, Taiwan has been invited for the first time for an exhibition on the subject of “Taiwan Ocean Action Exhibit-Blue Ocean Green Future” in the plenary hall from April 13 to 14 during the 2022 OOC, and it expects to attract more international communities who care about ocean affairs to visit the exhibition. Additionally, the TaiwanICDF will host two side events respectively, with the Palau government, “Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development in Small Island Developing States”, and with the Austronesian Forum, “Nature-based Solutions - Austronesian Peoples’ Perspectives”, sharing and exchanging experiences with both domestic and international experts from various fields to continue displaying Taiwan’s contributions and impact.
