Prime Minister of Belize visits the TaiwanICDF

The Prime Minister of Belize, John Briceño visited the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on March 10, 2022. This is the first time that we have received any high-level guests from our allied countries since the outbreak of COVID-19 two years ago.

The TaiwanICDF Secretary General, Ambassador Timothy T.Y. Hsiang warmly welcomed Prime Minister Briceño and the other honorable guests and they exchanged views on the TaiwanICDF’s cooperation projects in Belize.

The TaiwanICDF’s ongoing projects in the country include the Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project, the Urban Resilience and Disaster Prevention Project, the Flood Warning Capacity Improvement for the Belize River Basin Project, Empowerment of Women in Latin America and the Caribbean through Entrepreneurship and Financial Inclusion/Belize, the Digital Inclusion Program and the Project for Strengthening Medical Imaging System in Belize. Under the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service program, the TaiwanICDF also dispatches servicemen to assist with the implementation of projects.

To date, a total of 241 participants from Belize have received training from the TaiwanICDF’s professional workshops, 55 participants from the Vocational Training Program, and a total of 367 students have received International Higher Education Scholarships and studied in Taiwan. Currently, a total of 93 Belizean students are studying in higher education in Taiwan.
