Taiwan, Indonesia Pledge Commitment to Joint Cooperation and Development on Morotai

An Indonesian mission led by H.E. Fadel Muhammad, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, arrived in Taiwan on March 24 to participate in the “Forum for Cooperation in Morotai” and advocate bilateral cooperation toward development on the island, which lies northeast of Jakarta in North Maluku Province.

The forum comprised a range of Taiwanese and Indonesian participants from relevant government departments and from the private sector. The two countries confirmed their mutual commitment towards cooperation and representatives of the economic and trade offices of both countries signed Meeting Minutes immediately following the conclusion of the forum.

As part of the forum, parties agreed to conduct a development project on Morotai, following a commercial model in which public sector initiative will be backed by private sector investment.

Promoting private sector development in cooperation with partner governments is one of the mandates of the TaiwanICDF and, as such, we will play a leading role in designing and implementing the project.
