Project Description：

This project used to be operated as the Bamboo Handicraft Development and Cultivation Project, aiming to develop the bamboo industry by holding seed teacher training courses and establishing farmers’ consumer marketing groups. From 2013, the project has been integrated into the Latin America and Caribbean Bamboo Industries Development Project.In 2013, this project will:
1. Transfer the operations of the Bamboo Handicraft Development and Cultivation Project.
2. Propagate and plant bamboo seedlings in response to the reforestation policy of Ecuador’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP).
3. Investigate the market size of the bamboo industry in Santa Elena Province, Ecuador.
4. Promote bamboo cultivation and crafts in Santa Elena Province.

Project Objectives：

1. Cooperate with Ecuadorian counterparts to propagate and plant bamboo seedlings.
2. Transfer the Bamboo Handicraft Development and Cultivation Project to Ecuadorian counterparts.
3. Assist the government of Santa Elena Province to build the foundation of a bamboo industry.

Executing Agency：

Project Performance：

1. Produce 41,000 bamboo seedlings and cultivate 130 hectares of bamboo.
2. Produce cultivation, material handling and craft making brochures.
3. Complete bamboo industry market scale analysis report.
4. Prepare project transfer document and assist embassy in donation ceremony.
5. Conduct stakeholders meeting for 3 times, assessment analysis and appraisal mission. Submit bilingual project plan.
