Project Name:Women’s Livelihood Loan Project in Southeast and South Asia

Project status:Projects in Operation

Cooperating Country:Asia-Pacific, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Cambodia

Project Description:

TaiwanICDF cooperates with Singapore-based Impact Investment Exchange (IIX), the U.S. International Development Finance Corporate (DFC) and other international development partners on Women’s Livelihood Bond (WLB) Series, the objective of which is to catalyze private sector capital investing toward women’s economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods in Southeast and South Asia.

Region:Asia-Pacific

Project Objectives:To help women in Southeast and South Asia build financial resilience and transform lives into sustainable livelihoods.

Executing Agency:Impact Investment Exchange (IIX)

Implementation Arrangement:

The WLB series is an innovative debt security with a focus on both social and financial returns. The TaiwanICDF provides a concessional loan in the third tranche of the bond series (WLB3). Together with the credit guarantee provided by DFC, the WLB3 catalyzes seven to nine times of private sector capital invested in the project. As such, this structure connects official development agencies and capital market funds to co-invest in solutions for sustainable development of women in Southeast Asia and South Asia.
The WLB3 proceeds will be used to make loans to qualified microfinance institutions and impact enterprises, which assist women in acquiring productive assets, business skills, financing and other financial services or market channels, to empower women to transit from subsistence to sustainable livelihoods.
