Project Name:Provision of assistance to the most vulnerable persons exposed to protection-related threats as a result of COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis in Lebanon

Project status:Completed projects

Cooperating Country:West and Central Asia, Lebanon

Project Description:Since the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, Lebanon has housed around 1,500,000 Syrian refugees. The protracted Syrian refugee crisis has put a strain on the local deteriorating economy in Lebanon. Furthermore, the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the country has increased burden on the local healthcare services and worsened economic vulnerability faced by Syrian refugees and vulnerable locals. In addition, the Beirut port blast on August 4 of 2020 has not only caused a huge loss but also put the vulnerable households in a more dangerous status of facing deepening protection crisis. Therefore, in order to assist vulnerable Syrian and Lebanese households to decrease the negative impacts of abovementioned crises, this project will support Syrian refugees and other vulnerable families to obtain basic needs of healthcare and protection. Overall, the project includes the following:
1. 200 highly and severely vulnerable Syrian and Lebanese families have their tenure secured.
2. 200 families are provided with timely, needs-based emergency cash transfers to mitigate sudden protection-related threats.
3. 150 vulnerable households are better protected from COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the distributed IPC kits.
4. 8 health facilities have improved SOPs and ability to respond to COVID-19 pandemic.
5. 8 health facilities are able to provide health services in a safe manner thanks to the distributed PPEs.
