Delegation from Nicaragua visits the TaiwanICDF

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua Hon. Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, accompanied by Minister of Finance and Public Credit Hon. Iván Adolfo Acosta Montalván, Minister of Agriculture Hon. Edward Francisco Centeno Gadea and Minster-Director of the National System of Nicaragua for the Prevention, Mitigation and Attention of Disasters (SINAPRED) Dr. Guillermo José González González visited the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on February 27, 2020.

TaiwanICDF Secretary General Amb. Timothy T. Y. Hsiang warmly welcomed the honorable guests. The delegation not only affirmed the efforts of the TaiwanICDF’s cooperation projects in Nicaragua, but also expressed their expectations for further cooperation between the two sides in fields beyond agriculture. For example, smart technology could be introduced to enhance the production of agriculture and stock farming, or technology could be applied to disaster risk reduction as ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and communication.

The TaiwanICDF’s ongoing projects in the country include the One Town, One Product Project, the Strengthen Capacity for GIS metadata and Disaster Resilience Project, the Bamboo Cultivation and Handicraft Production Efficiency Enhancement Project, the Mariculture Project, the Plantain Development Project, the Common Bean Research, Development and Production Extension Project, the Capacity Building for Commercialization of Agricultural Products Project, the Project for Strengthening Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Prevention and Control System, the Rice Seed Research, Development and Production Extension Project, the Strengthening Fruit and Vegetable Production Project, the Overseas Professional Mandarin Teaching Project, the Specialized Financial Intermediary Development Fund- Subproject Próspero Microfinanzas Fund, and the Specialized Financial Intermediary Development Fund- Subproject Support for Access to Financial Services for Mini-markets (Pulperias), Microenterprises and Small Businesses. Under the scheme of the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service program, the TaiwanICDF also dispatches servicemen to assist with the implementation of projects.

To date, a total of 223 participants from Nicaragua have received training from the TaiwanICDF’s professional workshops, and a total of 166 students from the country have received International Higher Education Scholarships and studied in Taiwan.
