The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) has strengthened cooperation in recent years with international institutions to promote various aid programs. After signing agreements with Food For the Poor (FFP), Organismo Internacional Regional de Sanidad Agropecuaria (OIRSA), and the World Farmers Organization (WFO), the TaiwanICDF signed a memorandum of understanding with Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) on August 13, 2019. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Ambassador Tom Lee of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to St. Kitts and Nevis and Honorable Eugene Hamilton, minister of Agriculture and Health of St. Kitts and Nevis. The two parties will cooperate to promote projects relating to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

IICA has been promoting agricultural development, farmer guidance and natural resources management, and improving rural life in 34 member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean for many years. Since 2006, IICA has been working together with Taiwan Technical Missions in Haiti, Nicaragua, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Guatemala to hold seminars, professional training and exchange on technical expertise. Both IICA and the TaiwanICDF have been focusing on the challenges of agricultural development in response to climate change recently. As the St. Kitts and Nevis Enhancing Agricultural Adaptive Capacity to Climate Variability Project implemented by Taiwan Technical Mission is a good example of using ICT to strengthen climate resilience, IICA hopes to deepen cooperation with the TaiwanICDF in the exchange of meteorological data and technical personnel, as well as the promotion of project achievements.

This cooperation agreement highlights the goodwill of the TaiwanICDF and IICA to jointly work on sustainable agriculture, environmental protection and rural development. In the future, the two parties will take St. Kitts and Nevis as the starting point and combine the IICA cooperation network to continuously address the topics of climate change, agricultural value chain, food security, technological innovation, data analysis and smart technology applications. This in turn will expand the effectiveness of our projects and assist our partners in Latin America and the Caribbean in agricultural, social and economic development.
