Workshop participants take part in 2019 New Taipei City Sanxia Indigo Dye Festival and promote cultural exchange

Responding to the Sustainable Development Goals and Taiwan’s Executive Yuan designation of 2019 as Taiwan’s Regional Revitalization Year, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held the Workshop on Local Social Development from July 11 to July 24. Middle and high-level government officials in charge of local social development from 15 partner countries, including Guatemala, Belize and Honduras, participated in the training and learned about the Taiwan government’s measures for the integration of local cultural characteristics into exhibitions and other related practices of local special industries.

To promote international cultural exchange and public diplomacy, the TaiwanICDF cooperated with New Taipei City Government and arranged for workshop participants to take part in the 2019 New Taipei City Sanxia Indigo Dye Festival on July 20. All the participants wore traditional clothing with indigo dye accessories, presenting diverse cultural styles to the public.

In addition, the TaiwanICDF displayed traditional handicrafts, plant dyed fabrics with indigenous culture, daily necessities and bead chain accessories from Central America, Caribbean, Middle East and Africa in Sanxia History Museum. The diversity of artifacts allowed Taiwanese people to learn about partner countries’ different cultural characteristics while adding an exotic touch to Taiwan’s Hakka indigo dye activities.
