The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) successfully applied and became the 12th Taiwanese member of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI).　In the future, the TaiwanICDF will make good use of the resources obtained through joining this international community. The TaiwanICDF will assist partner countries to maintain the balance between economic development and biodiversity in the implementation of projects to make greater contributions to the conservation and sustainability of regional and global biodiversity.

The Satoyama Initiative was launched during the Tenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP10) in October 2010. The mission of the Satoyama Initiative is to promote and conserve socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS), such as agriculture, forestry, fishery and animal husbandry, for the benefit of biodiversity and human well-being. The International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) was established as a global platform whose members are organizations instead of nations, and its secretariat is hosted by the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). It aims to facilitate the cooperation and interaction among members and accelerate the implementation and research of the Satoyama Initiative.

As a professional foreign aid agency of Taiwan, the TaiwanICDF assists the development of partner countries using Taiwan’s expertise in agriculture, public health, ICT, education and the environment. In terms of biodiversity, the TaiwanICDF has made considerable efforts over the years. The horticultural projects implemented in partner countries in the Pacific Ocean such as Kiribati, Nauru and Marshall Islands are good examples, and in line with the spirit of the Satoyama Initiative which emphasizes the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. The implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has become a universal value and consensus in today's global development area. The TaiwanICDF will apply new practices in projects related to the environment such as rice, vegetables, fruit trees, aquaculture and livestock. Care would be taken in the implementation of projects so that natural resources are managed sustainably the negative impact of economic development minimized. In addition, through the IPSI platform, the TaiwanICDF will strengthen interaction with other members to expand multilateral international cooperation and international participation.
