Commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) is carrying out the College Youth Overseas Technical Assistance Service Project. The 10 college students enrolled this year are from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, National Chiayi University and National Chengchi University, and have different expertise in agronomy, horticulture, aquaculture, livestock, and enterprise management and marketing. They will travel to eight countries including Eswatini, Paraguay, St. Vincent and Palau for a six-month internship service on August 12.

By cooperating with domestic universities and colleges, the TaiwanICDF provides opportunities for young college students to participate in the implementation of international cooperation development projects by Taiwan Technical Missions abroad, so that students can use their honed skills and develop their international horizons.

The enrolled students are highly interested in participating in international affairs. For example, Yu-Ming Yen, from the National Department of Tropical Agriculture and International Cooperation at Pingtung University of Science and Technology, has developed an interest in understanding different cultures and values because of his experience with international students. After understanding the importance of international aid for Taiwan's development process, he actively applied to travel to Eswatini, and hopes to assist the technical mission to promote the Fruit Tree Production and Marketing Project. Kai-Yun Lai, a student from the Department of Animal Science at the National Chiayi University, has been enthusiastic about international cooperation in animal husbandry because of his many experiences as a short-term volunteer in developing countries. He hopes to contribute his expertise by participating in the Genetic Improvement in Sheep and Goat Project in Belize, and to improve cross-cultural communication skills.

In the future, the TaiwanICDF will continue to conduct the College Youth Overseas Technical Assistance Service Project for college students, and it is expected that more young students who are interested in international development assistance work will participate.
