Project Name:Maternal and Infant Health Care Improvement Project in the Kingdom of Eswatini (Phase 2)

Project status:Completed projects

Cooperating Country:Africa, Kingdom of Eswatini

Project Description:

Improving maternal and child health are key objectives of the National Development Strategy 2022 of Eswatini, Taiwan’s partner country in Africa. However, the biggest challenge is a lack of comprehensive maternal and infant healthcare from pregnancy through delivery to postnatal care, which also makes it difficult to detect high-risk pregnancy to then provide appropriate care and reduce preterm labor and neonatal mortality.
The TaiwanICDF has cooperated with Chiayi Christian Hospital, Eswatini Ministry of Health and Swaziland Nazarene Health Institution (SNHI) since 2016, to assist SNHI in improving the maternal and infant health care capacity of Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital (RFMH) and its six affiliated primary clinics in the Manzini region. Based on the phase I experience, this project will continue to cooperate with Eswatini Ministry of Health and expand the scope to cover the selected health facilities throughout the whole country. This project is expected to improve the institutional capacity for maternal and infant health care and the contents include:
A.Enrich health care personnel with knowledge in high-risk group care
B.Upgrade the functions of health care facilities
C.Strengthen maternal and infant health care education in the community
D.Enhance data analysis capacity
