Project Description:
At present, 90 percent of poultry consumed in Haiti is imported. This project will assist Haitian stakeholders to improve rates of import substitution by raising poultry locally.Overall, this project will:
1. Establish broiler chickens demonstration farm in the region of Cayes Jacmel to Combine functions of breding and hatching.
2. Produce chicken and promote chicken cultivation techniques, as well as provide assistance to counterparts to develop the capacity to operate chicken farms.
3. Build capacity and provide a suitable plan for the sustainable operation of broiler farms.
4. Complete project transfer.

Project Objectives:
At present, Haiti produces one million chickens domestically per year. The project objective is to increase production by 184,000 chickens after four years in the region of SUD-EST, which would represent an 18.4 percent increase in total domestic production, and then complete project transfer.

Project Performance:
1. Raised 100,374 broiler chickens, producing approximately 451,683 lbs. of meat and raised 18,259 Plymouth Rock chickens.
2. Established 2 farmers’ organizations comprising 30 farmers.
3. Organized 4 training workshops for the benefit of 303 participants.
4. Transferred broiler production technologies to 10 smallholder households; performed skills upgrading activities with 15 smallholder households.
5. Assisted cooperating units to independently operate a chicken farm; provided guidance on eggs and feed.
6. Completed project transfer to Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources Development (MARNDR) (Republic of Haiti).
