Project Description：

This Aquaculture Project, established by the TaiwanICDF and Food For The Poor (FFP) in November 2009, aims to help Haitian authorities to develop an aquaculture industry and provide a source of dietary protein for local Haitians.Overall, this project will:
1. Provide assistance to establish and operate a demonstration fish farm, and provide fish farmers with fry and feed.
2. Provide a source of fresh, cheap fish and improve Haitians’ nutritional intake through aquaculture-related technical training.
3. Transfer the project to local stakeholders.

Project Objectives：

1. Cooperate with FFP to establish a demonstration center to produce and provid tilapia fry ; transfer aquaculture techniques on to farmers’ organizations and assist farmers to resolve any problems encountered while raising their stocks as necessary.
2. Provide guidance to eight farmers’ associations.
3. Produce 24,000 tilapia fry per year by overseeing operations at the demonstration center.
4. Capacity building: Conduct training courses to develop the know-how of one member of FFP and three participating technicians.
5. Complete project handover activities.

Project Performance：

1. Provided assistance to 5 farmers’ organizations at breeding ponds; cultivated and bred 45,370 fry.
2. Provided cage aquaculture-related assistance to farmers; assisted 3 farmers’ organizations to cultivate 55,472 cage-bred fry.
3. Provided farmers’ organizations with 126,842 fry and organized 2 workshops for the benefit of an accumulated total of 78 persons.
4. Worked with participants of the TaiwanICDF’s 2011 Workshop on Tilapia Culture and provided them with sufficient technical skills to operate breeding pools independently.
5. Conducted project transfer to Food For The Poor.
