Project Description：

In cooperation with the Government of Paraguay, the Floriculture Project will draw on Taiwan’s advantages and experience in agriculture to support rural development.
Overall, this project will:
1. Upgrade existing production centers and establish a storehouse, a greenhouse for orchids, a training room and cold storage and irrigation systems.
2. Introduce, propagate, demonstrate and promote 95 suitable varieties of flowers and ornamental plants, as required to establish a consumer market.
3. Hold training courses, workshops and sessions to improve participating flower farmers’ skills; organize flora expositions to promote floriculture markets.
4. Organize, guide and assist participating flower farmers and establish a consumer market.

Project Objectives：

1. Upgrade existing production centers at Caacupe and complete the construction of buildings and facilities.
2. Introduce 95 different varieties of flowers and ornamental plants, and propagate 1,450,000 flowers and 100,000 orchid seedlings to help develop individual operations within the industry relating to cut-flowers, pot plants and ornamental flowers.
3. Organize 16 consumer market groups, hold 24 sessions and 400 instances of training to establish a consumer market chain and increase the income of farmers.
4. Organize, guide and assist participating flower farmers and establish a consumer market.

Implementation Arrangement：Members of the Taiwan Technical Mission will provide technical assistance and assistance for capacity building.

Project Performance：

1. Propagating 1,450,000 flower seedlings (US$0.5 per seedling) and 100,000 orchid seedlings (US$1.5 per seedling) will generate sales of US$875,000.
2. Assisting flower farmers to organize six production and marketing teams for cut flowers, pot plants and orchids will generate annual sales of US$1,500,000, or US$5,000,000 over four years.
3. The project will see the publication of six floriculture handbooks; four floral production and marketing training courses, six floral planting sessions and six floriculture expositions will be organized to improve the skills of 400 participants.
