Project Name:SME Development Project (Guatemala)

Project Description:

Drawing on Taiwan’s own experiences of developing small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the purpose of the project is to provide guidance and consultancy services to similar enterprises in Guatemala and promote industrial transformation.
Overall, this project will:
1.Assist Guatemalan stakeholders to establish consulting teams and, in accordance with industrial development policies, support the needs of enterprises by performing site visits and providing technical assistance and consultancy services.
2.Conduct consultancy case studies at selected enterprises by combining Guatemalan and Taiwanese resources, including experts, industry associations and other institutions.
3.Develop human resources and enhance industrial competitiveness by providing technical training and seminars and introducing advanced technology and management tools.

Project Objectives:

1. Improve design capacity, product quality and productivity and generally promote the development of 90 SMEs in accordance with industrial development policies.
2. Assist 22 Guatemalan SMEs and generally reduce poverty in remote districts by assisting such SMEs to develop domestic and overseas markets and by providing comprehensive marketing guidance.
3. Organize training courses for 600 participants, thereby improving the quality of human resources available to Guatemalan industries.
4. Complete project handover in accordance with formal agreements; develop a plan for future cooperation.

Executing Agency:

Taiwan Investment and Trade Service Mission in Central America /  Ministry of Economy (Republic of Guatemala) / INDIS at Rafael Landívar University (Republic of Guatemala)

Implementation Arrangement:Members of the Taiwan Technical Mission will provide technical assistance and assistance for capacity building.

Project Performance:

1. The MSMEs situation survey was compiled, as well as all the government policies and the environment for their financial access, a final report was finished.
2. Handcraft wood furniture and agro-industry sectors survey was complied, and final reports were finished.
3. 487 cases were served in the business administration area for MSMEs.
4. 188 cases are undergoing to support individual business enterprise management in key sectors.
5. 29 seminars and/or courses in technical areas and business management were organized; 887 people were trained.
6. Targeted groups for participation in 9 promotional events were supported, 113 MSMEs participated.
7. 136 training courses were organized to the project management team with the participation of 3811 p.
8. 6 people of counterpart institutions were trained in the project execution and human resources management.
