The Organization of American States (OAS) brings together the countries of the Western Hemisphere in order to strengthen cooperation and advance their common interests. The OAS member states have intensified their cooperation since the end of the Cold War in defending democracy, protecting human rights, strengthening regional security, fostering free trade, combating illegal drugs and fighting corruption.

The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), established in 1999, operates at the OAS headquarters in Washington D.C. The YABT's mission is to address the critical issues of poverty and unemployment among young people－issues that affect the development potential, progress and social stability of all the nations of the Americas.
