The African Development Bank, with headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, was created in 1964. Its shareholders are the countries in Africa as well as in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The AfDB's principal functions are to make loans and equity investments to regional member countries in Africa, to provide technical assistance for development projects and programs, to promote investment for development purposes, and to help coordinate development policies and plans in African countries.
