Project Description:
The project will enhance the professional knowledge of cooperating extension personnel and technicians, enhance the value of agricultural products and raise incomes in the agricultural sector.
Overall, this project will:1.Assist Guatemalan stakeholders to build food processing certification systems and assist manufacturers to obtain food processing safety certification.2.Assist Guatemalan stakeholders and manufacturers to build and create product innovation systems.

Project Objectives:
The objectives of this project are:
1.Improve manufacturers’ marketing skills and consult on health and safety regulations.
2.Cooperate with the Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology to renovate and operate a food processing plant, and provide training at processing plants in central and western regions of Guatemala.
3.Work with the Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology to organize training courses and seminars to improve industrial human resources.
4.Work with cooperating units on capacity building activities, including the capacity and operational capabilities of policy units and their personnel, and transfer the project to Guatemalan stakeholders.
5.Provide information on food hygiene inspection standards and associated regulations to the Guatemalan government as a policy reference.
Executing Agency:
Taiwan Investment and Trade Service Mission in Central America / Ministry of Economy (Republic of Guatemala) / Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology (Republic of Guatemala)
Implementation Arrangement:Members of the Taiwan Investment and Trade Service Mission in Central America will provide technical assistance and assistance for capacity building.
Current Progress:
To the end of June 2012, the following activities have been completed:
1.Collected industrial data and carried out exchanges of information; worked on 10 cases to improve manufacturers’ marketing skills and consulted on health and safety regulations.
2.Worked on 10 cases in which guidance and consulting services were provided to members of a Kuchub’al joint marketing association, other Kuchub’al groups and key industrial manufacturers.
3.Worked with the Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology to organize 14 training courses and seminars for the benefit of 416 participants.
4.Communicated with the Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology on the organization of promotional activities based on the results of technical guidance.
5.Handled matters relating to the transfer of the project and associated equipment.
6.Collected 100 percent of industrial data earmarked for collection.
