Hon. Youri Latortue, Senate President of the Republic of Haiti, accompanied by chamber members Hon. Francenet Denius, Hon. Nawoon Marcellus, Hon. Jacques Sauveur Jean, Hon. Onondieu Louis, and Hon. Pierre François Sildor, Director of Senate President’s Cabinet Mr. Pascal Adrien, and Economic Consultant of Senate President’s Cabinet Ms. Dominique Youri Mevs, visited the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on November 7, 2017.

TaiwanICDF Secretary General Amb. Timothy T.Y. Hsiang warmly welcomed Hon. Youri Latortue and the other honorable guests. They exchanged views on the TaiwanICDF’s cooperation projects in Haiti.

The TaiwanICDF’s ongoing projects in the country include the Rice Seed Production Capacity Enhancement Project in Haiti, the Post-Matthew Les Cayes Agricultural Emergency Recovery Project in Haiti, and the Project to Increase Rice Production in Les Cayes, Haiti. Under the scheme of the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service program, the TaiwanICDF also dispatches servicemen to assist with the implementation of projects.


To date, a total of 141 participants from Haiti have received training from the TaiwanICDF’s professional workshops, and a total of 54 students from the country have received International Higher Education Scholarships and studied in Taiwan. To promote Chinese-language education and cultural exchanges, the TaiwanICDF has dispatched one professional Mandarin teacher to Haiti to teach mandarin at the Diplomatic Academy, the University of Notre Dame, and the Autonomous University of Port-au-Prince since 2015.
