On March 26 to April 4, 2006, the International Cooperation Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and Changhua Christian Hospital dispatched a Mobile Medical Mission to Swaziland to provide free medical treatment. This is the second mission organized by the TaiwanICDF, as the first had been sent to provide outreach clinics in the Darjeeling region of India on December 2005, to assist the Tibetan refugees and Indian residents in that area.

The Mobile Medical Mission to Swaziland included nine physicians led by Changhua Christian Hospital President Dr. Wei Chih-tao. Dr. Chen Chi-Fu from the TaiwanICDF, who has 10 years of medical experience in Africa, served as the chief of the team. The mission provided medical treatment services in remote areas of Swaziland, and promoted health care and the importance of HIV/AIDS prevention. About 1,683 persons received treatment from this mission.

Furthermore, the mission has distributed about 2,000 second-hand toys, 500 bottles of children's vitamins donated by a Taiwanese pharmaceutical factory, and toothbrushes and toothpaste donated by the Chinese Dental Association (Taiwan). These giveaways proved to be great gifts for those people who came forward to receive treatment. It has been acknowledged that the mission has brought health care, medical services and humanitarian assistance to Swaziland. The mission returned to Taiwan on April 5, 2006. The Changhua Christian Hospital expressed their satisfaction and appreciation regarding its cooperation with the TaiwanICDF.

The Mobile Medical Mission will be the core project for the TaiwanICDF throughout this year. More missions have been planned and will be dispatched to the Central American and South Pacific region in the near future. We expect to continue the Mobile Medical Mission's project of bringing medical professionals and health care from Taiwan to remote villages around the world that lack health and clinical facilities.
