TaiwanICDF Donation Strengthens Web Portal for Young Entrepreneurs

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) is pleased to announce the donation of US$100,000 to strengthen the Young Americas Business Trust's (YABT) web portal for young entrepreneurs. The funds were presented to the Chair of the Board of Directors of YABT, Ambassador Jeanette W. Hyde, at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on September 20, 2004.

YABT will use the contribution to develop its InfoBiz portal and strengthen business resources and library information. The website is helpful for any company or individual interested in doing business in Latin America and the Caribbean. The portal includes information on legal and licensing procedures, financing, education and training, and networking.

As part of the Taiwan Participation Plan, the TaiwanICDF and YABT will identify partners in both the public and private sectors in Taiwan, including technicians, manufacturers, and technology suppliers. A technical expert will be assigned to YABT Headquarters at the OAS General Secretariat to formulate the strategy and technical specifications to build the InfoBiz platform, as well as the regional electronic multimedia project.

''Through this generous contribution, the TaiwanICDF has once again demonstrated its willingness to be a strong partner in the development of Latin America,'' Hyde mentioned in a meeting at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representation Office (TECRO) with his Excellency Ta-wei Lee.

In March 2003, Taiwan's government and YABT signed a ''General Cooperation Agreement,'' and the TaiwanICDF collaborates with the organization on a range of activities including numerous videoconferences and seminars on agro-businesses, technology, and business development issues.

The TaiwanICDF strongly believes in developing young entrepreneurs through public/private sector partnerships and works with organizations such as YABT to create employment opportunities and combat poverty in Latin America.
