Reaping a Literary Harvest
The ICDF unveiled its first bilingual book yesterday at a Book Launch Ceremony and Illustrations Exhibition at the Howard International House in Taipei.
''Greening the Sahel: The Taiwan Experience in Burkina Faso'' commemorates 40 years of agricultural cooperation between Taiwan and Burkina Faso. The seven chapters narrate the struggles, personal development, hurdles and successes of the Taiwan Technical Mission to Burkina Faso.
H.E. Ambassador Jacques Y. Sawadogo of Burkina Faso attended the ceremony and signed copies of the book for guests.
''The publication of this book represents an important and happy event in the sense that it immortalizes 40 years of excellent agricultural collaboration between Taiwan and Burkina Faso. It also represents a very real symbol of the deep and solid goodwill between the Taiwanese and Burkinabe peoples,'' Ambassador Sawadogo told the audience at the ceremony.
The book contains side-by-side Mandarin and English text for easy comparison and is illustrated with beautiful illustrations and detailed visual descriptions. The publication also includes introductions from President Chen Shui-bian, Minister of Foreign Affairs and ICDF Chairman Eugene Y.H. Chien, and ICDF Secretary General Yang Tzu-pao. It is available at quality bookstores for NT$249.
