The ICDF celebrated the publication of ''To Touch the World -Stories of the Taiwan Spirit'' in a book release ceremony on Monday.

ICDF Chairman Eugene Chien and H.E. Ambassador Jacques Sawadogo from Burkina Faso, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Taipei, gave special addresses. Distinguished guests and ambassadors from over 13 countries attended the event.

The book, divided into eight chapters, was published through the collaborative efforts of the ICDF and Taiwan News. Each chapter vividly describes the professional integrity and dedication of mission members and staff involved in international development work. Many glimpses of ICDF operations are described in the book including the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service, the Overseas Volunteers, and the Medical and Technical Missions.

The goal of the publication is to increase the publics' awareness of the ICDF and share the organizations experience with the international community. The book traces the careers of some extraordinary individuals who have selflessly traveled to distant countries to help those in need.

''The public and our international friends will learn more through this publication about the sacrifices made by Taiwanese citizens to alleviate poverty and encourage development,'' Chien told the audience.

As the world's 16th largest economy and 14th largest trading nation, Taiwan is striving to share its successful development experience with friendly and allied countries. Through cooperation and friendship, sustainable development can be achieved and as the title of the book suggests, the ICDF is ''touching the world'' on a daily basis.

''The book documents the profound relationship between the ROC and all of our respective governments and peoples,'' Sawadogo said after receiving a signed copy of the anthology.

The publication will soon be available at participating bookstores for NT$ 280.
