We here clarify certain statements made in media regarding “Taiwan says Nauru owes more than $12 million”.

The loan reported by media recently was made by The International Commercial Bank of China (“ICBC”) to the Government of Nauru with funding from the International Cooperation and Development Fund (“ICDF”). ICDF is a foundation organized as a corporation independent of the Government of the Republic of China. It is not part of the ROC government. It has its own mission, and is capable of suing and be sued in its own name. Whether to sue or not to sue is ICDF’s own decision, and in this instant case, ICDF will do its best to protect the interest of the Republic of China as well as its own interests and in most likelihood request ICBC to take appropriate action.
