Hon. Roberto Ramón Acevedo Quevedo, Speaker of Paraguay’s Congress and Chamber of Senators, accompanied by chamber members Hon. Arnoldo Wiens, Hon. Adolfo Marcelino Ferreiro Sanabria, Hon. Luis Alberto Wagner, and Director of the Department of Protocol of Paraguay’s Congress Mr. Julio César Echagüe Martínez, visited the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on May 25, 2017.

TaiwanICDF Secretary General Amb. Weber V. B. Shih warmly welcomed Speaker Roberto Ramón Acevedo Quevedo and the other honorable guests. They exchanged views on the TaiwanICDF’s cooperation projects in Paraguay. As this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Taiwan and Paraguay, a short video on the Health Information Management Efficiency Enhancement Project was shown during the meeting.

In addition to the Health Information Management Efficiency Enhancement Project, the TaiwanICDF’s ongoing projects in the country include the Feed Production Project, the Pacu Fingerling Breeding and Cultivation Project, and the Orchid Industry Development and Tissue Culture Plantlet Propagation Project. Under the scheme of the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service program, the TaiwanICDF also dispatches servicemen to assist with the implementation of projects.

To date, a total of 299 participants from Paraguay have received training from the TaiwanICDF’s professional workshops, and a total of 20 students from the country have received International Higher Education Scholarships and studied in Taiwan.

To promote Chinese-language education and cultural exchanges, the TaiwanICDF dispatched two professional Mandarin teachers to Paraguay, who have been teaching separately at several institutions including the Diplomatic Academy, the Vocational Training Office at the Ministry of Labor, and other official institutes since 2014.
