Vice Minister of Health of the Republic of Paraguay, Dr. María Teresa Barán and Paraguay’s biomedical advisor to the cabinet, Dr. Pedro Galván visited the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on May 9, 2017.

TaiwanICDF Deputy Secretary General Dr. Lee Pai-po warmly welcomed Dr. María Teresa Barán and Dr. Pedro Galván. They exchanged views on the TaiwanICDF’s medical cooperation projects in Paraguay.

Besides Dr. María Teresa Barán and Dr. Pedro Galván, Paraguayan participants of the workshop held by the Health Information Management Efficiency Enhancement Project joined the meeting as well. Implemented jointly by the TaiwanICDF, Cathay General Hospital and Paraguay’s Ministry of Health in 2016, this project aims to assist the country in enhancing health information management efficiency through capacity building and system development, and in strengthening e-health system functions in pilot regions.

In addition to the Health Information Management Efficiency Enhancement Project, the TaiwanICDF’s ongoing projects in the country include the Feed Production Project, the Pacu Fingerling Breeding and Cultivation Project and the Orchid Industry Development and Tissue Culture Plantlet Propagation Project. Under the scheme of the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service program, the TaiwanICDF also dispatches servicemen to assist with the implementation of projects.

To date, a total of 299 participants from Paragauy have received training from the TaiwanICDF’s professional workshops, and a total of 20 students from the country have received International Higher Education Scholarships and studied in Taiwan.

To promote Chinese-language education and cultural exchanges, the TaiwanICDF dispatched two professional Mandarin teachers to Paraguay, who have been teaching separately at several institutions, the Diplomatic Academy, the Vocational Training Office at the Ministry of Labor, and other official institutes since 2014.
