President of the Republic of Kiribati H.E. Taneti Maamau led a six-member delegation to visit the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on May 23, 2016.

TaiwanICDF Secretary General Amb. Weber V.B. Shih warmly welcomed President H.E. Taneti Maamau, member of parliament Mr. Tianeti Ioane Beenna, CEO of Air Kiribati Mr. Tarataake Teannaki, and the other honorable guests. They exchanged views on the TaiwanICDF‘s cooperation projects in the Republic of Kiribati.

The TaiwanICDF’s ongoing projects in the country include the Repair and Upgrade of Bonriki International Airport, the Aquaculture Project, the Nutrition Enhancement Project, and the Pig rearing Project. Under the scheme of the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service program, the TaiwanICDF also dispatches servicemen to assist with the implementation of projects.

To date, a total of 73 participants from Kiribati have received training from the TaiwanICDF’s Professional Workshops, a total of 21 students from the country have received International Higher Education Scholarships and studied in Taiwan, and another 9 students have joined the TaiwanICDF’s Vocational Training Project for Youth in the Pacific.
