Training to Commence for First Group from TaiwanICDF’s 2015 Healthcare Personnel Training Program

The opening ceremony for the TaiwanICDF’s Healthcare Personnel Training Program will take place on April 22, with participants for this year’s first group comprising 18 medical personnel from Tuvalu, the Solomon Islands, the Marshall Islands, Paraguay and Burkina Faso, each shortly due to take up a placement at one of the TaiwanICDF’s cooperating medical institutions for one to three months of professional training.

In addition to learning about the practical modes of operation found within Taiwan’s health care system and upgrading their professional capabilities, program participants will continue to serve as seed teachers after completing their training and returning home, imparting the professional medical knowledge, skills and experience that they acquire to local medical personnel, effectively improving local health services. Six Taiwanese cooperating institutions will be acting as hosts during this round of training: Chung Shan Medical University Hospital, Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, Taipei Medical University’s Shuang Ho Hospital, Cathay General Hospital, Mackay Memorial Hospital and Fooyin University.

Some 300 medical personnel have already visited Taiwan to receive clinical training since the Healthcare Personnel Training Program began in 2005. In addition to considering partner countries’ professional medical needs, the principles underpinning trainee selection and recommendation in recent years have also followed planning for the TaiwanICDF’s medium- to long-term public health and medicine projects, thereby enhancing the effectiveness with which the organization’s projects are being implemented.
