The TaiwanICDF will be hosting a Forum on Aid Practices in International Public Health and Medicine at Caesar Park Hotel, Taipei, on the afternoon of March 9, with a number of domestic health care institutions and medical colleges invited to participate and set to exchange their experiences of international public health and medicine.

To ensure that the resources employed in its public health and medical operations are allocated and utilized effectively, the TaiwanICDF established a mechanism for cooperating with local medical and educational institutions in October 2013, and has since built a system for cooperating on public health and medical projects according to such Taiwanese partners’ countries of interest and areas of expertise, screening potential instances of cooperation, and then assisting partner countries in the promotion of public health and medical projects together.

This year will see the UN’s Millennium Development Goals draw to a close. Among these goals are a number associated with public health and medicine, including “reduce child mortality,” “improve maternal health,” and “combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases,” all of which have seen improvements thanks to the efforts of the international community.

For the past two years, the TaiwanICDF has been tracking the themes and targets involved in the post-2015 development agenda, which takes a further step in emphasizing the need for universal care. The goals directly relating to public health and medicine include calls to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, to achieve food security and improved nutrition, and to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Bringing its core strategy into line with these goals, the TaiwanICDF then incorporated its long-term plan for public health and medical services, and has been initiating new international public health and medicine projects.

In 2014, seven health care institutions and medical colleges participated in missions associated with the various phases of TaiwanICDF projects. In addition, 17 cooperating units worked with the TaiwanICDF in handling its Healthcare Personnel Training Program, bringing 37 medical personnel from 13 countries to Taiwan for clinical training.

Planned as a series of workshops, the Forum on Aid Practices in International Public Health and Medicine will ensure that these partners continue to understand the TaiwanICDF’s policy blueprint, as well as the new practices involved in international public health and medicine projects. The event will also hope to encourage potential new partners to participate in similar projects.
