TaiwanICDF to Host Fall-Winter 2014 Volunteer Camp

To expand the TaiwanICDF Overseas Volunteers Service and raise public awareness and participation in volunteering work, the TaiwanICDF is hosting three volunteer camps in locations in northern, central and southern Taiwan throughout the second half of 2014. With events in Taipei (October 18) and Taichung (November 15) having already taken place, this year’s final camp will be held for an anticipated 30 participants at the Formosa MICE Corridor learning space in Kaohsiung’s Formosa Boulevard on November 29.

The curriculum of this year’s program of camps covers a basic outline of the TaiwanICDF’s volunteer service, trends in the development of volunteering services, volunteer ethics, self-understanding and affirmation, and an initial introduction to the relevant rules and regulations of the service, all aiming to ensure that participants understand the difference between the status of TaiwanICDF volunteers and other volunteers. To help participants understand the experience of living and working overseas, former volunteers are also invited to share their experiences of overseas service as part of the curriculum.

The TaiwanICDF Overseas Volunteers Service this year entered its 18th year, having been under operation since 1996. To date some 618 volunteers have been dispatched to provide a range of volunteer services in 36 partner countries across Africa, Central and South America, Asia-Pacific and the Caribbean.
