TaiwanICDF Holds Orientation Activities for 2014 Intake of Freshmen Overseas Scholarship Students

The TaiwanICDF welcomed 183 freshmen students from 32 countries to Taiwan on September 11, 2014, as part of its International Higher Education Scholarship Program. Due to take up placements on 33 programs at 22 local universities, the students hail from many different parts of the world, and so with social and cultural backgrounds in their home countries often markedly different to those in Taiwan, the TaiwanICDF sought to assist them in integrating smoothly into Taiwan’s environment and adapting to their future study life by holding orientation activities at Chientan Youth Activity Center, Taipei.

Among other things, training activities included a briefing on the TaiwanICDF’s operations, an introduction to the International Higher Education Scholarship Program and its regulations, an introduction to Taiwan, and experience-sharing from senior overseas scholarship classmates who have already lived in Taiwan for some time. The TaiwanICDF hopes that these different forms of communication will have assisted overseas freshmen in gaining an initial understanding of Taiwan’s learning and living environment, as well as its language, society and culture, and that activities have encouraged students to share their experiences by interacting with new classmates from other countries and with university personnel.
