Project Name:Humanitarian Cooperation Fund (Mercy Corps)

Project Description:

The Fund is to support Mercy Corps recovery and development assistance programs responding to nature or man-made disasters. The activities of programs will include, but not limited to, cash-for-work programs, purchasing aid materials, civil engineering projects.

Project Objectives:The Fund is to support humanitarian initiatives for recovery operations in emergency situation and provide immediate and necessary assistance to people affected by natural disasters, wars, and ethnic conflicts in countries around the world.

Executing Agency:Mercy Corps

Implementation Arrangement:In the event that Mercy Corps reponds to any humanitarian crisis, Mercy Corps will dispatch a humanitarian relief team as quickly as possible after the crisis has occurred. A concept paper will be prepared after on-the-gound needs being identified. TaiwanICDF will decide the degree and scale of its participation upon receiving the Concept Paper. Mercy Corps will launch the agreed project soon after the response team is ready to carry out the work and sufficient funds have been received.

Current Progress:US$400,000 has been disbursed to the Fund. The Fund has supported Cash for Work Program Acitivities in Port au Prince in Haiti soon after the January 12, 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Implementation Progress:Cash for Work Program in Port au Prince, Haiti has been completed.
Pakistan Livelihood Recovery Program has be proposed by Mercy Corps and currently reviewed by TaiwanICDF.

Project Performance:Cash for Work Program in Port au Prince, Haiti
The program has benefitted 5,957 families, or approximately 29,785 individuals. A total of 372 Cash for Work teams are organized to work on the projects, the community has been thereby strengthened. Moreover, the experiences on project implementation provide for future community leadership opportunities.
