TaiwanICDF 2014 International Cooperation and Development Summer Camp Gets Underway

The TaiwanICDF 2014 International Cooperation and Development Summer Camp, a four-day, three-night event organized by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), will take place at the Uni-Resort Lukang in Changhua County from June 8 to 11. This year’s camp, due to be attended by 105 local and overseas students from 19 Taiwanese universities, will feature a range of activities including international cooperation-themed programs and classes, group discussions and results sharing, and other recreational activities and cultural visits.

With the rising participation of NGOs in foreign aid work having already been established as an unmistakable trend, and appreciating that the issue of social enterprises is also in the ascendency, the TaiwanICDF has designed the curriculum of this year’s camp with such themes especially in mind, hoping to inspire students’ awareness and enthusiasm of NGOs and social enterprises through NGO-themed seminars and discussions, and an exploration of social enterprises. Part of this plan is for student groups to shoot and produce a short, three- to five-minute advert by the end of the camp, aiming to creatively highlight the innovations of a chosen social enterprise scheme.

In addition to the specialist courses to be offered, this year’s camp will also feature ballroom dancing classes and a summer ball, a parade on Lukang Old Street, and other recreational and intellectual activities, all in the hope that bringing students together for training in a relaxed atmosphere will help to cultivate a multinational team spirit and social skills. The TaiwanICDF is optimistic that the interaction of local and foreign students at the camp, which will be conducted in English throughout, will strengthen Taiwanese students’ awareness of international cooperation and development affairs and raise their cross-cultural communication and teamwork.

The TaiwanICDF 2014 International Cooperation and Development Summer Camp marks the fifth year that the TaiwanICDF has been organizing annual events of this kind. Making the most of universities’ summer vacations, the camps are designed to address topical issues within the field of international cooperation, with groups of students participating by invitation, and to date have kindled an enthusiasm for international affairs among some 250 young scholars. Each camp is attended by an equal mix of local and foreign exchange students.
