Your Destination, My Homeland: TaiwanICDF Hosts Exhibition of Photojournalism, International Cooperation and Culture

To bring experience and knowledge of faraway places to Taiwan through a vivid collection of photographic work, and to promote further understanding of Taiwan’s foreign aid endeavors, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and GeoReactivo, a visual platform, have come together to organize Your Destination, My Homeland: An Exhibition of Photojournalism, International Cooperation and Culture, running from November 15 to December 1, 2013 in the exhibition space on Taipei’s historic Bopiliao Old Street. The opening event, to be hosted by TaiwanICDF Secretary General Tao Wen-lung, will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, November 16.

Your Destination, My Homeland marks the first time that the TaiwanICDF has curated works from an Internet-based collection. Drawn from more than 500 photographs originally posted online, the final 50 pieces selected for display highlight the work of alternative military servicemen, volunteers, technicians and experts formerly or currently serving in the TaiwanICDF’s developing partner countries. Through its meticulous installation and curation, the TaiwanICDF hopes to give visitors a glimpse of the world from the perspective of these photographers, so that the stunning scenes and local customs captured in every image etch their stories deep into the heart.

In addition to the 50 photographs to be displayed in the main gallery, Your Destination, My Homeland also features a second space playing host to an installation. Combining a series of windows and photographic works, this piece explores some of the TaiwanICDF’s foreign aid projects. The hope is to provide viewers with an understanding of cooperation between Taiwan and its partner countries, and efforts to improve the local environment and quality of life in these places.

Two photographers will be on hand to share the stories behind their work during a forum on November 16. In addition, to celebrate International Volunteer Day, the TaiwanICDF has also invited its overseas volunteer coordinator in St. Lucia and two overseas volunteers to come along and share with their experiences with the public face to face during a second forum on December 1. Meanwhile, smartphone users will also be able to “check in” to the exhibition space for the duration of the exhibition for the chance to win prizes.

The TaiwanICDF will continue to work to international standards in the future, assisting partners and developing countries to carry out a range of development projects and allowing Taiwan’s experiences to cross national borders, and ethnic and cultural barriers, linking Taiwan and the world together to create a brighter future for all. We welcome everybody to participate in this exhibition and associated activities.
